I’m Captain Brandon Henley of Florida Keys Fly Fishing. I am so fortunate to be surrounded by some of the greatest flats fishing in the world, and to have the chance to share it with others. This isn’t a job, it truly is a way of life for me. Since I can remember I have been obsessed with the ocean and the fish that swim beneath its surface. This love of all things aquatic grows a little more everyday, and exploring the flats of the Florida Keys is where I am most content.

 

My favorite part of being a Florida Keys fly fishing guide is never quite knowing what each day will hold. Almost without exception, SOMETHING new and interesting happens every day out there. That magic that the ocean still holds is what keeps me coming back to it. I believe in sharing that magic with my guests while fishing the Florida Keys.

 

I get asked all the time what’s your favorite fish species to target in the Florida Keys. I can definitely say fly fishing for permit is my first love. Something about the chess match does it for me. Permit fishing is a mental game and trying to guess their next move, and how you will react is a blast. Let’s just say I am afflicted with the permit sickness.

I believe being a fly fishing guide in the Florida Keys is the greatest job in the world. Who else can say they get so excited to go to work they can’t sleep the night before? When was the last time you got so pumped up at work that you yelled out with sheer joy? I am so grateful to live in the Florida Keys and show this incredible fishery to my guest. I run all my fly fishing charters in a 2017 Maverick Mirage HPX-18. It is powered by a 4 stroke Yamaha 115 hp outboard. This boat is truly a Ferarri on the flats.
